Offline AI USB FAQ

Everything you need to know about the PortableMind offline AI USB—from launch steps to privacy and storage—so you can stay productive without the cloud.

Setup and launch

Does the USB need internet?

No. Launch the included script and the AI runs locally in airplane mode.

Do I need admin rights?

Approve once; afterward run as a standard user on Windows or macOS.

How do I open it on Windows?

Double-click Start-PortableMind.bat, then bookmark the localhost tab once it opens.

How do I open it on macOS?

Control-click the .command file → Open, approve once, and keep Terminal open.

Performance and storage

What free space should I keep?

Leave 10–15 GB free on the USB for cache and updates.

Which port should I use?

Use USB 3.x or a quality USB-C adapter; avoid loose, unpowered hubs.

Can I speed it up?

Use the low-spec preset on weaker machines, close extra tabs, and reduce stream speed.

Privacy and data

Does my data leave the device?

No. Prompts and outputs stay on your laptop; you can keep Wi-Fi off.

Where should I save outputs?

Save to the USB or an encrypted local folder; avoid synced cloud folders during sensitive work.

Is anything installed?

No. The launcher runs from the USB and stops when you close the terminal.

Troubleshooting basics

The page is blank—what now?

Wait 40–60 seconds, refresh localhost, and ensure VPN/proxy tools aren’t blocking it.

SmartScreen or Gatekeeper blocked it

Windows: More info → Run anyway. macOS: Control-click → Open or approve in Privacy & Security.

USB feels slow

Check free space, use a direct port, and confirm antivirus isn’t scanning the drive heavily.
